Review of My Man Godfrey (1936) by Edgar C — 24 Aug 2011
Among the top American classics, this is on an even higher level. My Man Godfrey punches the bourgeois class in the face and mocks their tendencies. Powell scores with an extraordinary performance and the screenplay accentuates absolute brilliance in every possible dialogue, displaying insanely bizarre characters in the process and a twisted plot that guarantees unpredictability. Bold "screwball comedy" (it goes beyond that) that stands as a unique US delivery. Strangely enough, it is more appreciated today.
99/100.
