Review of My Fair Lady (1964) by Lea F — 12 Nov 2009
One of my favourite movies as a kid (along with Gone With the Wind and Robin Hood) I watched it again a couple of nights ago. Having not seen it for ages, I was pretty excited about it and it fully lived up to my expectations! It's a great movie, a great story on so many levels.
Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison are brilliant and you can't help but love Eliza's father, Stanley Holloway, and Higgins' mother, Gladys Cooper. There are songs that will stay with you for years, phrases that will be incorporated into a family's language (the rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain!), and scenes that will touch your heart.
In these years, where musicals are being filmed like never before, we should go back to the masters and see how they made them!
