Review of My Darling Clementine (1946) by Jens T — 28 Aug 2011
John Ford's My Darling Clementine is the classical story about sheriff Wyatt Earp (Henry Fonda) who's just lost his little brother who's being shot while he was looking after the cattle. Wyatt decides to take the job as sheriff in a small town called Tombstone, a law less town full of crooks and outlaws. A man named Doc Holliday (Victor Mature) is the man who runs every thing around Tombstone. But just like Wyatt he's only there because he want's to forget his previous life, in this case a girl he once loved named Clementine Carter (Cathy Downs) who have looked every where for him and finally found him in Tombstone. How will it all end?
My Darling Clementine is a good western where Henry Fonda plays it straight, he never goes over the top, he's always calm. He always plays the main protagonist who have to stand up for what's right. We also gets a splendid performance from Victor Mature as the anti-hero Doc Holliday, a man haunted by his past. A good objective western. It also got Walter Brennan. Thumbs up.
