Review of My Bloody Valentine (2009) by Dougal S — 27 Mar 2010
Another 80s remake - this time of the sometimes notorious othertimes overlooked slasher of the same name.
A supposedly dead miner in a gas mask is staking the townsfolk, offing them one by one with a pick axe, re-enacting a killing spree from ten years previous. But is he really back from the dead or is someone else acting it out?
This is a decent if un-original stalk and slasher with a few frights and a surprising amount of gore. The plot is pretty flimsy (I seem to say that a lot about the films I see!) but passable for these sort of films.
The big selling point is obviously the 3D (this being one of the forerunners of the new 3D craze) and it does translate OK to DVD / TV. To be fair the producers have put some thought into it and as the main protagonist uses a pick-axe as a weapon of choice there's plenty of scope for sticking one end or the other out of the screen. The only downside is having to watch the film through an odd red/green tint thanks to the glasses you have to wear.
Worth a look but don't expect anything too ground breaking.
