Review of My Bloody Valentine (2009) by Marie-Pier D — 27 Feb 2016
One of the only modern slasher remakes that I genuinely like. It probably helps that I don't have a load of affection for the original film, but I also admire the fact that Todd Farmer's script is totally aware of what the virtues of this kind of film are supposed to be and he just goes for it.
This is a pretty gory film and has one nude sequence that ... well, let's just say it really goes for broke. It also has a bit of genuine mystery to it. The killer's identity is not really obvious until the final reveal (although it does cheat a bit with a fake "ruling out" of a key suspect).
Not a brilliant piece of work by any means, but a slasher pic that almost stands up with the best of the original era (if only there wasn't so much CGI blood).
