Review of My Bloody Valentine (2009) by Alex A — 25 Apr 2018
A film that is reasonably slick, this is not too ambitious but Harry Warden is a very strong villain. The way he moves in this film is uncanny to the original portrayal. The acting is pretty solid as well, but the kills are not practical at all.
They relied on CGI which is a shame watching horror films today, back when Friday the 13th (1980), My Bloody Valentine (1981), and A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984) were made, they used many practical affects that this film unfortunately didn't have.
The result are deaths that are underwhelming and predictable. The buildup to the chase scenes were great and the plot twist actually did work, but I haven't watched the original so it probably caught me much better than it should have had.
This movie is actually very solid with some competent performances. So I recommend renting this film.
