Review of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 (2016) by Chris R — 08 Apr 2016
Again, such a delight to see that the critics dont like a film and sure enough, after seeing this, I think you should just take the critics scores as a reverse. If they give it 1 out of 5, its awesome, a 5 out of 5, its an artistic success, but you will be bored to tears.
This film was just great. It required not a lot of thought and just let you sit back and enjoy the show, the chemistry between the two lead actors and a great ensemble cast to support. My daughter hates romcom's, but sure enough she too enjoyed this.
There was plenty of jokes that were borderline sitcom, but the story of a greek mom not letting go was entertaining, but not too much to make it painful. There were a lot of jokes about stereotypes, but thats why this was a natural extension of that one. Its great they didn't do this too early as a 'cash in' on the first and also use the time to tell a different phase of their lives. I expect they will do #3 when Ian and Toula go into retirement or perhaps when the grandchildren arrive. I saw BatMan v Superman the week before and what a ride. This was a welcome downshift to something slower and immensely enjoyable.
