Review of Mute (2016) by Tom O — 28 Feb 2018
Very disappointed -especially so soon after the wonderful Altered Carbon, this Blade-runner "thriller" (?) falls very flat. The problem is that the story doesn't make any sense - and despite some interesting visuals and a watchable Paul Rudd, there's little else to praise.
The supporting performances aren't wonderful and I don't know why there had to be so much sex, violence, paedophilia or muteness. Ultimately this is a film that felt like someone had spare time with the Bladerunner set and hurriedly made a story to fit.
I didn't care about any of the characters - let alone understand their motivations. How/why did it relate to Moon and, ultimately, what was the point??
