It took a moment to get used to the flicker of the 70mm film, the heightened accent from Daniel Day-Lewis's Woodcock and heavy, operatic score. I thought it might have been too "artsy" for me but I was quickly into the story and felt intrigued, warmed, amused and disturbed by the intimacy, idiosyncrasy and neuroses that bats about between the Venn diagram of the three leading characters.

Pitch-perfect performances set against the very-real supporting actors. The story reminded me of Secretary in the portrayal of a consensual abusive relationship; American Beauty in the use of asparagus BBC series The Second Coming at the end .

This is firmly it's own story though: about the darker quirks of personality and the discovery of happiness in unexpected places and unorthodox means.
