Review of Murder on the Orient Express (2017) by Ryan%20 J — 06 Oct 2018
Stylish adaptation of the classic mystery novel that sadly doesn't add anything new over previous versions. The cast is superb, with Brannagh giving one of best performances in recent history as Hercule Poirot, providing a real intelligence but also smidgens of a soul as he contemplates the true nature of crime.
Behind the camera, Brannagh also provides some nice direction, with beautiful production and art styling, making a film that is at least gorgeous to look at. However, the film doesn't add much new to the story, with the exception of a more diverse cast (Leslie Odom Jr.
is nicely played as the black doctor). Overall, worth checking on TV, but doesn't surpass the previous versions.
