I literally laughed out loud. And that doesn't happen often. You might need to know some classic movie history (i.e. Dick and Dora Charleston=Nick and Nora Charles from the Thin Man movies) to understand some of the jokes, but I don't think that it is absolutely necessary.
The ending is a little odd/abrupt, but overall, I thought this movie was great!
