Review of Mrs Carey's Concert (2011) by Keith W — 21 Apr 2011
The music is stunning and the two students at the centre of this doco are fascinating in their distinctive way, but the filmmakers may have wanted the journey to the titular concert to be a bit more dramatic than it is.
Mrs Carey herself is no doubt passionate about teaching her students to be the best classical musicians possible, but her role as inspirational figure takes a back seat most of the time to the school girls and their internal politics.
A lot of the time though it feels like there's a concerted effort to squeeze out dramatic conflict that just isn't there. One thing's for sure, it makes you want to book tickets to the next concert at the Sydney Opera house.
