Review of The Big Country (1958) by Keith W — 29 Dec 2017
Another great William Wyler picture. "The Big Country" is long but it needs every minute to tell its compelling story. There is a Shakespearian vibe to it all. Two powerful families vie for control of the land.
Odd for a western, this movie is very anti-violence. Peck's Captain James McKay relates more to Ghandi than John Wayne. And he is a man who truly doesn't feel the need to prove himself to anyone but himself. Very interesting lead character.
