Review of Mrs Carey's Concert (2011) by Mark P — 11 Oct 2011
This was such an interesting documentary both as a film watcher and as a former school musician. The passion of Mrs Carey for music is evident and its impact and manifestation on the two girls that we follow throughout the documentary is both familiar and unexpected.
Having been involved both as a player in school music concerts and to a much lesser extent involved in some minor backstage concert aspects, I can understand where the students and teachers are coming from.
As a documentary, it is not a saccharinely sweet with the inspirational, speech tug at the heartstrings moment that infects many Hollywood films. Instead, the fly on the wall approach successfully works in this documentary.
