Acting, directing and cinematography is top notch, but the film lacks a plot that could have held the movie together. The movie portrays the time period when Turner's style starts to change from a popular to the style we all we come to know.
Even though this is an interesting time to depict, the movie does not shows how or why his style changes. Why did he change his style? What inspired him? Even if the movie does has an answer to this question, either I failed to see it or the movie fails all together to show it.
