Review of Mr. Turner (2014) by Steven K — 10 May 2015
This movie is about an artist. I appreciate the serious and artful qualities of the movie, but it lacked energy. I found myself not caring where it was going. Perhaps it is just cinematic proof that an eccentric character who grunts a lot does not necessarily make for an entertaining movie.
The set designs and costumes were great; I found the soundtrack music annoying and dreary. Even an art house movie can be interesting, but this movie was striving to be "real" to such an extent I found it unbearably snoozy and even unpleasant to watch.
I gave up at the point when he banged his maid against a bookshelf. It was like watching a man with advanced COPD hump a startled hen. Beautiful painting abound. The dialogue was sometimes mumbled and grunted to the point where I could not tell what was being said.
