Review of Mr. Turner (2014) by Richard F — 07 Feb 2017
British painter William Turner, whose work was both admired and reviled in his lifetime, is played with surly grunts and glowers (and flashes of true emotional depth) by Timothy Spall, yet leaves his motivations obscure and actions perplexing.
Despite some lovely period details (costume, set) the story is weighed down by an eerily discordant musical score and an excessively slow moving plot, making this too-long film a snoozer and disappointment.
