Review of Mr. Bean's Holiday (2007) by Movie K — 26 Jun 2010

Wtaching it for first time I was disappointed. The second time I think this one holds more true to the original of Bean. Overall short and funny, enjoyable enough. Rowan Atkinson is Bean. He win a trip to Cannes and also a video cam.

Reaching France, he boarded the wrong taxi. But he just use the compass and walk straight to reach the train station. He ask a guy Karl Roden to film him going up the train. Karl in turn miss the train and his son Max Baldry is onboard.

Rowan try to cheer him up and he alighted at the next stop. A drunk approach the boy and Rowan alighted to scare him away. Max got his video cam and cause Rowan to miss the train. The next train flash by and Karl show them the number to call but the last 2 digits was blocked.

They call all the numbers and Rowan left his passport on top of the public phone when the train come. They were chase down at the next stop for no tickets. Rowan took a speaker from a vendor and do street performance.

The final act receive great ovation and they got lots of money to buy food and bus ticket. Rowan's ticket blown by the wind and a chicken step on it, load to a car and driven off. He give chase on bicycle and reaching the coop, he can't get the ticket.

His bicycle is crush by a tank. He try to hitch ride and end up got stuck in a small wooden room. He move it to the road and break free. He walk all the way and arrive at a film location. Suddenly tank and soldiers attacking and Rowan save a girl Emma de Caunes.

Willem Dafoe the director yells cut and refit Rowan as an extra. He unplug the pyrotechnic switch to charge his video cam. Willem is angry it didn't go off and when he press it exploded. He hitch a ride and Emma save him, she is driving the same car and colour as him.

At the toilet break pit stop, Rowan reunite with Max. The long car trip make everyone sleep and Rowan has no choice but took over driving. They reach Cannes finally. At the petrol kiosk, Emma saw the news and now know Rowan is english and Max isn't his son.

Both guys dress up as woman to go through the checkpoint. Rowan and Max sneak into the cinema. Willem is showing his new movie and it is a bore. Emma is angry her only scene is cut. Rowan go to the projection room and play his video cam.

It is a smooth flow matching the original dialogue. Rowan went to the front stage and the spotlight shine him. Karel go up and want his son. Max appear from the screen. The movie is a great success and Willem pretends and ride on the fame.

Later Rowan see the beach and happily walk straight all the way there. Emma also got famous because of the footages.
