Review of Mouchette (1967) by J B — 14 Nov 2007
Mouchette is a complete enigma, even after we are shown her surroundings and what leads her to her eventual fate, she is in turn victim, bitch, sympathetic, caring, tease and the performance from Nortier is brilliant.
My main problems lay in some of the direction, Bresson's staging is completely shocking at times which is a complete suprise after some wonderful staging in his previous Pickpocket which contains some wonderful moments of staging.
And I think the writing could have gone further, without spoon feeding I would have wanted more interaction between Mouchette and particularly her family.
