Review of Monster House (2006) by Lea S — 24 Oct 2009
Lately I've been taking in horrors that involve malevolent intentions from inanimate houses and the things lurking inside them. What better way to scare an audience than to make them afraid of the very setting they are likely watching the film in!? Well children don't get out of this tactic when it comes to scary Halloween movies that their parents might approve of, and I'm sure it made a lot of kids hide under their blankets after hearing a strange noise, and second guess themselves before walking into an abandoned old house.
However, the movie can't take credit for putting any new and scary ideas into kids minds that weren't there already. It was quite unimaginative, perhaps derived from a nightmare the director had when he was 7, but also very slow and boring at times, and trying to incorporate adult humor in the dull slots that I'm sure lost kids even more so in a boring trend of uneventful staring out a window.
gosh and there are so many more ways to start a scene than a birds eye view from the top of autumn trees to the street in front of the ominous house! maybe twice but 4 times..........
