Not a perfect film; it could have had some more connected elements, but for a directorial debut as an animated film by Gil Kenan, marks a quantum leap for the guy.

This movie is very different in a way that is a typical lifestyle when the peevish Nebbercracker berates any neighbor from his property and confiscates their valued belongings, but his purpose behind these swashbucklings is reticent. The empathetic protagonist DJ, who lives across the street spys on Nebbercracker to scrutinize the details of his neighbors' origins and try to put all the pieces together with the help of his friend chowder, who believes that the entire plot is an overreaction and myth but is eventually proven wrong when Nebbercracker's house becomes something very unusual. Just like the director Kenan, he collaborates from the subtle composer, Douglas Pipes, who uses suspense, joy, and delightful music to the screen. When I say "suspense", I mean that this flick has no full gratitude towards younger audiences as the music will most likely play during very dark scenes, which gave me a slight concern on the PG rating the MPAA gave this film and its release in July instead of October, but no concern on the lack of blood. Mystery inquisitives and many movie buffs would not regret seeing this movie and I think it is was a fun experience that I would say for this kind of directorial debut.
