Review of Monsieur Hulot's Holiday (1953) by Stella D — 09 Oct 2008
Like a French Mr. Bean, Mr. Hulot bumbles his way around a seaside resort, barely muttering a word, and causing trouble where ever he goes! From the moment we first see Mr. Hulot putt-putt-putting along in his rusty old clunker, we are immediately drawn to him.
The rest of the film is a series of amusing sight-gags that don't string together any particular plot, but are nonetheless enjoyable. This movie is a delightful treat for anyone who appreciates quality pantomime.
