Review of Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan (2007) by Nazire C — 15 Mar 2009

Exquisitely photographed with excellent performances from most of the leads. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It was pleasant surprise to find that it wasn't the end-to-end gore-fest that the marketing drivel on the DVD cover would have you believe.

There was a fair amount of action and battle scenes, but the real story was more about the relationships between Temujin, Borte and Jamukha. Good special effects and breathtaking landscapes. I think the pace might have been picked up a bit in the middle and I'd really have loved to have seen what followed once he became the Genghis Khan.
