Review of Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan (2007) by Anna S — 09 Jan 2010

Mongol was an interesting film to watch. The landscapes of Mongolia and Kazakhstan were captured so beautifully, which was perfectly suited to the slow pace of the movie. Its an ambitious movie considering the historical accounts of Mongolians is limited.

The movie was less about the rule of Genghis Khan and more focused on Temujin's life before he was named Khan. The acting in this movie is fantastic, and a lot is left unspoken. I enjoyed the love story and overall build up to going to war against his brother, however I found the movie to be a bit too emotionally cold for my liking.

I also did not particularly care for the last battle scene, especially the digital aerial shots.
