Review of Money Monster (2016) by Movie M — 13 Sep 2016
"Money Monster" aims to be a thriller, with intense, suspenseful scenes, but also add some humour and other lighter themes to it. That, I feel, is where it struggles the most. The scenes in the studio, where Lee (George Clooney) is held at gunpoint, those are the scenes that make up this movie, and actually do create a lot of tension.
However, when it cuts away to the other characters, namely Walt Camby (Dominic West), it just cuts all the tension and suspense away, and kills the vibes. "Money Monster" tries to do do too much.
However, I have to say George Clooney and Julia Roberts both had fantastic characters, and executed them very nicely, as you would expect from them. Clooney's character: Lee Gates, is probably my favourite in this movie, and actually was done really well.
In the end, "Money Monster" has some elements of suspense and does really well in some scenes of creating tension, but just those few scenes where it cuts away to the part of the movie nobody cares about makes it a movie that is worth watching, if you're bored.
