Money Monster by director Jodie Foster catches the vibe of the 70s to establish a thriller that centers in economic inequality, financial crisis and corruption. Since we have seen this type of crime movies in “The Big Short” and “Wall Street,” they seem getting more and more redundant. Though Money Monster continues to have the same elements of other financial films, it tries to make the premise more thrilling.

George Clooney and Julia Roberts reunite to make their tandem spark again after “Ocean's Twelve,” but this time not as a couple. Clooney plays Wall Street Guru, Lee Gates and Roberts plays TV producer Patty Fenn. Their performances are both solid and sophisticated. And while the concept is really good and the screenplay is fast-paced, the main problem here is the way it is engineered. The tension goes on and off and the humor occasionally sustains the entertainment in the movie.

VERDICT: Though the screenplay and execution has a lot of space for improvement, Foster has the potential to show her admirable talent in directing with an unexpected comeback from Clooney and Roberts.
