Review of Mommie Dearest (1981) by Matty S — 27 Dec 2013
Infamous and iconic, in its own way -- Frank Perry has created an almost operatic and campy masterwork. And despite what the critics stated at the time, Faye Dunaway delivers a precise and brilliant turn in which she not only seems to become a sort of mythic idea of who Joan Crawford was, but also seems to be possessed by some Kabuki Performance Demon.
And, it works. And, Diana Scarwid is so bad that her performance almost comes around to being good.
