Mommie Dearest the movie is not Mommie Dearest the book; the movie probably covered about a third of the plot that was captured in the book, but as a movie by itself, it is actually quite solid. It is built on a foundation of stark simplicity and plays like a minimalist version of itself.
Though it is weak in parts, it entertains. It entertains, and really, what else matters?
