Review of Modern Times (1936) by Siddhant S — 07 Aug 2009
Chaplin's films are as timeless as they are hilarious, and "Modern Times" is no exception. A sprawling commentary on technology, industry, politics, materialism and everything in between proves no less relevant over 70 years later.
Chaplin, blindfolded on rollerskates, navigates through the film with deft ease, even when the plot tends to dwindle in its later half. Through it all, as he reminds us in the end, the important thing is to keep smiling.
Tomorrow will be a brighter day.
