Review of Modern Times (1936) by Carlos M — 11 Mar 2012
This was my introduction to Chaplin. It's a film that boasts both spectacle and ideas behind it but the ideas aren't played out in overly complex means. It has some incredibly poignant social commentary but doesn't either just hand it out to the audience or hide beneath layers and layers of metaphors.
Chaplin and Goddard's characters are spectacular and likeable and on top of it all it's just such a brilliantly funny and enjoyable watch.
