Review of Modern Times (1936) by Jeff D — 04 Aug 2009
2009: Unemployment hits 10%, consumer spending is way down, and the economy is struggling to keep a pulse.
Chaplin's Modern Times, his last "silent" movie, mirrors our state of affairs from 73 years ago.
This is an absolute classic and a, yes, perfect movie.
Chaplin incorporates his comedic style and elegance while also providing a solid view of the everday working man trying to survive during an economic crisis.
The film is very funny, smart, beautifully directed, tender, and worth watching again and again.
