Review of Mister Roberts (1955) by James H — 17 Apr 2009
An interesting and compelling war movie from the point of view of a non-combat ship. Acting was marvelous. Henry Fonda pulled off the tough guy, but had more depth of character than anything I've seen of Humphrey Bogart, so far.
There are a lot of propaganda war movies out there, but this was by far a movie that paints the Navy, (sic. military,) in a positive light without blowing smoke up our asses. We don't get to see Mister Roberts' demise, and yet we can feel it much deeper than if we had.
