Review of Mister Roberts (1955) by Nik B — 03 Nov 2010
Heartfelt and tender story with some truly good performances. Henry Fonda is great in the title role, giving that warm Americanism so typical of his portrayals in film. Cagney is good as the crotchety old Captain but it is Jack Lemmon who just steals the show with his supporting role as Ensign Pulver.
The story is predictable and quite message driven at times, but war film most often isn't? And there are some truly funny lines and moments, especially the laundry scene. Great film!
