So my official critique of Miss Peregrines home for Peculiar Children The Movie (I read the books):

It is about 90-95% it's own movie. Is it fantastic? No. entertaining? Yes.

It is rated Pg-13 and I took My daughter to go see it who is 11. I'd say she's at a good age for it ( let's face it, this household loves ALL things Tim Burton and weird). Yes there is some violence but really no foul language. The hollowgast character was very well designed and executed.

Now, if you have read the book you will be disappointed if you're going in thinking it was going to satisfy your imaginations eye while reading...there were very few similarities between book and movie. And those of you loyal to the book or familiar with the book will pick up on them as soon as the movie starts. The twins that are in the movie don't even make an appearance until the second book. Emma and Olive have swapped peculiarities. Emma is supposed to have the fire and Olive the air and floating. Enoch is supposed to be younger and Enoch and Olive are NOT an item in the book, Fiona should be older, Bronwyn should be older, Victor never comes to life or cries. Dr. Golan is a man not female. Emma does not tell Jacob he's peculiar, Miss Peregrine does. The entire plot of the film was so far off of how the flow of the book is. It really isn't anything like the book. They also added things that don't even happen in the book. It was a tough pill to swallow lol as far as the lack of similarities. Now, all that being said...it was a quirky creepy off beat Tim Burton film and for that reason I will own it some day. I should have gone in NOT expecting the book on screen. It should be viewed as a movie and plot all it's own with some influences of the actual book/story. I would recommend this for mature 11 and older. No foul language, minimal violence, and a creativity that only Tim Burton can accomplish on screen.
