Review of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016) by Jake A — 21 Jul 2017
Though narratively it is weak and it hardly reaches the heights of the very best that Tim Burton has directed it still has enough going for it to make an entertaining enough watch. Visually it is stunning while having plenty of style and high production quality, the score is excellent, the cast features some of the best that cinema has to offer while bringing forward plenty of new talent, the peculiar abilities of the children are all unique and interesting and the action towards the end is both enthralling and comedic.
It is also nice to see a big budget film like this partially filmed in a town I frequent often (Blackpool, England) but the narrative stumbles and a functional but hardly deep script however undermine what could have been a much better film.
