Review of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016) by Quillby Q — 01 Nov 2016
Despite the genius brain of Tim Burton, this film shows that very little thought was put into character development or accuracy. The scenery was stunning but the characters were far from accurate. The swapping of Olive and Emma's peculiarities was unnecessary and destroyed the characters entirely.
Part of Emma Bloom is her fire like personality and her tragic backstory. By giving olive these powers and removing the childlike wonder of Olive, just that destroyed the movie. Bronwyn's age was far too young, and her maturity was also part of her character, she has been degraded to a six year old for comedic effect.
Fiona and Hugh were the most disappointing of all. They are supposed to be 14-15-16, but now they look like ten year olds. Fiona never spoke and was most likely a person of color with untamable hair. The Fiona in the movie is a completely separate character of her own.
This movie ruined the book and is unacceptable.
