Review of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016) by Alex S — 11 Feb 2017
I was anxious to see this movie, but by the half way point I couldn't wait for it to end. It ranks up there as the movie with the most convoluted plot ever. They never stopped explaining the plot. They were still explaining it till the last few minutes.
Really? If the story is that hard to explain, who cares? Plus the more the movie told you all that plot the stupider it became. Asa Butterfield was perhaps the most boring lead in a film ever. Why? He seemed like he would have rather been anywhere than in this movie.
He seemed to have no energy or passion or that Tim Burton had just finished yelling at him for doing too much before the cameras rolled. And what was up with that father character? Was that how he was in the books? All of those scenes were horrible & frustrating.
And Finally the children's peculiarities, for the most part, seemed to have no rhyme or reason & were peculiar just because. Gnashing vicious teeth in the back of a sweet girls head? What? Why? How? Ugh.
I liked Eva Green.
