Review of Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters (1985) by Ricardo O — 22 Sep 2010
An ambitious, thought-provoking and visual tour de force that centers on the life of one of Japan's most celebrated post-war writers, Yukio Mishima. It is told in four segments, each from different pieces of work he had written, that parallel events from his life all the while it goes back and forth to his final day of existence before publicly killing himself.
It is amazingly stylized biopic that can be compared to none. It is a masterpiece of filmmaking from one of the best screenwriters/directors of the '70s and '80s, Paul Schrader (Scrn: "Taxi Driver", "Raging Bull", "The Last Temptation Of Christ"; Dir.
: "American Gigolo"). 10/10.
