Review of Misery (1990) by Stephen L — 05 Oct 2010
What's brilliant about this movie is the build-up, we know that Annie is insane pretty early on and The guy knows it too, but there's nothing he can do. The threat is known, but it's just a matter of keeping her madness at bay until he can leave.
it's rare when the the protagonist actually depends on antagonist for survival. what makes it scary is that it's so easy to relate to, it takes place in a regular house and the hero is in a believable state of helplessness.
When Kathy Bates gets made, sh becomes more terrifying than her nude scene in About Schmidt (uhg). not the best Stephen King adaptation, not even the best by Reiner, but still pretty good.
