Review of Miller's Crossing (1990) by James M — 31 Mar 2014
I'm a huge fan of the Coen Brothers movies but I don't hold this in quite high regard as I hold Fargo, No Country For Old Men or their other works.
It's quite a complicated, convuluted tale of two warring mob bosses during prohibition-era America. The characters and dialogue are quite Coen-esque and the attention to the period is given justice by Barry Sonnenfeld's atmospheric photography.
I just found it dragged in many places, quite unnecessarily. It does however, feature one classic scene between Gabriel Byrne & John Turturro in the woods and is worth watching for this scene alone.
