Review of Miller's Crossing (1990) by Sam J — 17 Jun 2018
****.
'Miller's Crossing' is a near-perfectly executed gangster flick. The story, although nothing particularly original, is told with the typically astute eye and prowess of the Coen Brothers in a way that was very engaging; and there were a number of memorable set pieces and moments thrown in throughout. Barry Sonnenfeld did a great job as DP, with lots of bright primary colours to emphasise the simplistic but prominent nature of many of the characters. Gabriel Byrne gave a stellar performance, as did the whole cast really, and it's their performances and the immense style brought by the Coen's that make this such a memorable and worthwhile experience. A masterclass of a crime drama.
