Review of Miller's Crossing (1990) by Anna B — 17 Mar 2015
I don't really know what to think of this. I felt like I didn't know what was happening for most its length, but I did enjoy it to an extent. I dunno. Probably requires a rewatch.
I did re-watch it, like three years later, and the plot made a lot more sense this time (actually not sure why I had so much trouble with it the first time) so I was able to pay more attention to the great dialogue and characters. I also noticed more problems than I remembered, such as the terrible sound mix and score, and the weirdly celebratory, kinda juvenile depiction of violence (Finney's big scene is nothing but "How badass is this awesome old gangster?") so my score ended up staying the same.
