Gus Van Sant is a recognised figure in the indie genre, and when I first found about this project I was shocked. Milk presents to the audience Harvey Milk's rise and his fall. This presentation is represented by one of the finest actors today; Sean Penn in his finest performance since 2003's Mystic River.
Milk also features stunning direction from Van Sant, a strong supporting cast and a magnificent screenplay. An important film. Milk is nothing short of a masterpiece. The last 20 minutes really tore me up.
