Review of Mildred Pierce (1945) by Adrian B — 14 Feb 2010
Now this is what I call a brilliant film. The forshadowing at the beginning is great and there are several twists in determining the murderer of a man in beachfront home. Joan Crawford deserved her Best Actress award for her role.
The most prominent part of the film that strikes at me is when Mildred (Crawford) gets a job as a waitress. I love how she struggles for the first couple weeks and becomes a great waitress at the restaurant.
What makes the film more interesting is when Mildred launches a restaurant chain named after herself, where her first location is from an old house along the highway. She seems know many accounting principles and marketing concepts and becomes a powerful business woman when running her restaurant, eventually involving into a chain.
Yet at the same time, she has to deal with the troubles of her daughters. Brilliant film!
