Review of Mikey and Nicky (1976) by Mitchell W — 20 Jan 2008
An overlooked classic. If it wasn't for the credits, you would've sworn this was directed by John Cassavetes, who stars with his frequent collaborator, Peter Falk. Technically a suspense film, it eschews the pacing and the artifice that usually comes with the genre.
Instead, it focuses on Mikey's relationship with Nicky, unfolding in a loose, rambling plot built around Cassavetes and Falk's brilliant improvisations.
