Review of Midnight Special (2016) by Jo C — 28 Apr 2016
You always know when you're watching a Jeff Nichols film. A. Michael Shannon is present and captivating. B. It's like you've walked in on a moment in someones life and you hang around to see it play out.
C. A nostalgia is triggered in your psyche. Even though A, B and C were featured in Midnight Special, I was left feeling that there was a lot left to be explored with these characters and new depths to be found within the storytelling.
We just saw the tip of the iceberg. Nichols had revealed that it was a film about his son and that very much shone through but not to everybodys satisfaction. I was just left wanting more...â?¨On a side note, can anybody tell me why Roy and Sarah couldn't raise Alton for two years? Was he at The Ranch? Think I may have completely missed the explanation.
