Review of Midnight Special (2016) by Isadore H — 15 Oct 2016
Midnight Special is directed by Jeff Nichols, and stars Micheal Shannon, Kristen Dunst, and Joel Edgerton. I really like all three of these actors and I was very excited to see Adam Driver and Sam Shepherd in the cast list as well.
However Jaeden Lieberher really surprised me as the young boy with the special powers, he was absolutely fantastic here, and really held his own extremely well against a massively talented cast. I really enjoyed the suspense and sense of something greater present that the film gave me.
There were plenty of great scenes and well written dialogue that really added to the film. The camerawork and lightning was all excellent and each shot was beautiful. I only wish that they would've gone farther into the background of these characters, I was really intrigued at what secrets the past of these people contained, and I really wish they would've done more with the religious extremists in the film.
These changes would probably make this a 3.5 hour movie that would've ran way too long, but I still wanted to know more about these people. I liked the movie as a whole, I felt like the ending was just a LITTLE bit anticlimactic, but I still liked it.
Midnight Special is a movie definitely worth your time.
