Review of Midnight Special (2016) by Ginkgobiloba — 12 Apr 2016
We join the characters in a motel room. Who they are, and where they've come from, become slowly more apparent as the journey continues towards an unrevealed destination. The eventual revelation could hit you either of two ways, a bit like a certain yeast-based sandwich filling.
Where this film really succeeds is presentation and camerawork. Together cinematographer Adam Stone and director / writer Jeff Nichols immediately give the film an urgent, mysterious atmosphere that rarely vanishes, right from the opening title appearing in front of the receding bumper of a throaty Chevelle, speeding through the night.
