Review of Midnight Run (1988) by Nikolaj Z — 07 Oct 2007
"Jack? 'What?' When do you think we're gonna get to L.A.? 'None of your fucking business!' Well, I have to go to the bathroom. 'Shut the fuck up!'" - A well written buddy comedy with an all-too-familiar theme of one annoyingly, talkative man partnered with one hard-ass, quiet man (e.
G., The Man), except Charles Grodin is able to pull off his character very well without making any of his lines sound forced; and you totally sympathize with De Niro when he tells the guy to "shut the fuck up".
The story is about one man dragging another man cross country, but it plays off more like a chase movie, which is quite enjoyable. The blending of innocent comical moments with harsh language also pays off very well.
- "You get it started, and I'll run you over. That's the best plan I can think of.".
