Review of Metal: A Headbanger's Journey (2005) by Nicole N — 28 Aug 2007
For those who are fully metal, there will be no new angles in this study of what makes the music genre unique, but there are points of entertainment along the way that make it fun to watch regardless. A quick cut of Al Gore vs Dee Snider is very amusing.
For those that don't like metal, as they say at the end of film, "we're doing just fine without you.".
Personally, I am finding real quality bands in any genre of this form to be hard to come by these days, and even though I am the hardest rocker alive (it's not what you think) and fully committed, I find myself ranging out to find quality wherever I can. I'm leaning towards a study of jazz drummers for my next foray.
I really liked that one bit from Bob Rosengarden on a recently watched Dick Cavett disc, and he is a small example.
For all those quoted chicks that call metalhead men universally ugly, I happily stand as the exception to your rule. Dig it.
